Ask Luke: 8 Questions About Afro Kinky Bulk Human Hair

We’ve been collecting the questions customers have been asking us most often about Afro Kinky bulk human hair.

Instead of turning them into another product guide, we asked Luke from the FLEXIGRIP factory team to answer them in one place from the production side.

No marketing script. Just the questions we actually hear and the way we look at them in the factory.

1. “Is it really 100% human hair, or is synthetic fiber mixed in?”

Luke: This is probably the most important question, and I understand why customers ask it.

FLEXIGRIP Afro Kinky Bulk Hair is made with 100% human hair, without synthetic fiber blended into the product.

For us, that starts with the raw hair. From sourcing and receiving the hair through processing and final inspection, we use a quality-control system to check consistency, texture and overall quality before a batch is approved.

“Human hair” should not just be something printed in a product title. If a customer orders human hair, that is what we expect the customer to receive.

2. “Why does 16-inch or 18-inch Afro Kinky hair look shorter than the listed length?”

Luke: Because kinky hair shrinks visually.

Our lengths are based on the stretched length of the hair. We separate the hair by length during production, before it is processed into the final Afro Kinky curl pattern.

After the curl pattern is created, the hair naturally looks shorter. So a 16-inch Afro Kinky texture will not hang the same way as 16-inch straight hair, even when the measured length is correct.

That is why I always suggest choosing length based on the finished style you want, not only on how long the hair looks while it is still coiled.

3. “Why do some packs have shorter hairs or lose some hair when they are separated?”

Luke: A small amount of shorter hair is normal with real bulk human hair.

Human hair is not an industrial synthetic filament where every strand is exactly the same length. There will naturally be some variation between individual strands.

What we try to control is the amount. Our quality-control process is designed to reduce excessive short, weak or unusable hair before packing.

And because bulk hair is loose and unwefted, seeing a few loose strands while separating it can be normal. What should not happen is that a large part of the pack becomes unusable.

One thing I also want to make clear: human hair can break too, especially after aggressive pulling or harsh chemical processing. Breakage alone is not a reliable test for whether hair is human or synthetic.

4. “Why does some colored bulk hair have a strong smell when the package is opened?”

Luke: That usually comes from the coloring and processing stage.

If colored hair is packed too quickly after processing, odor or residue can remain.

For the shades that go through coloring, we use our coloring process and give the hair time to air outdoors before final packaging. We do not dye the hair and immediately seal it into the package.

The purpose is simple: by the time the hair is packed, strong processing odor or obvious residue should not be what the customer experiences first.

5. “Is the 4B/4C texture supposed to be as tight and curly as possible?”

Luke: No. More curl does not automatically mean better Afro Kinky hair.

The curl pattern is designed. If we make it too exaggerated, the finished loc, twist or braid can look unnatural.

We process the texture to balance softness, fullness and enough texture for the stylist to work with. It should not look silky or overly smooth, but it also should not look stiff or artificially over-curled.

The goal is for the added hair to blend naturally once it is installed.

6. “Is 50g really 50g? And are 3 packs enough?”

Luke: Every batch is strictly weighed before shipment, and the normal tolerance is small.

Each FLEXIGRIP pack is sold as 50g, so 3 packs give you about 150g in total.

But I do not like telling customers that “three packs will definitely be enough for everyone,” because that is not true.

A loc repair may use very little hair. A full head of long, thick loc extensions may need much more. Head size, loc thickness, length, density and the stylist’s method all change the amount needed.

For a full installation, your loctician is still the best person to estimate quantity.

7. “Can I wash it? What happens after I wear it for a while?”

Luke: Yes. It is human hair, so the care is not complicated.

You can soak it with clean water, wash it gently with a regular mild shampoo, rinse it and let it dry thoroughly.

If the hair has already been installed into locs, drying is especially important. Dense locs should not stay wet inside for long periods.

I usually tell customers to treat it more like their own hair than like a disposable synthetic accessory: clean it gently, avoid unnecessary harsh chemical processing and let it dry properly.

8. “Why can the same color look slightly different between batches?”

Luke: Colored human hair can have small batch-to-batch differences.

That is exactly why we pay attention to batch matching before shipment.

If one customer orders multiple packs, we make sure the color is consistent within that order so the customer does not receive visibly mismatched packs.

This matters especially with shades such as #4 Brown, #27 Blonde, #30 Auburn, #99J Burgundy and Burgundy.

And if you are comparing colors yourself, natural daylight is still the best place to do it. Brown and burgundy tones can look very different under indoor lighting.

One last thing from the factory side

Luke: Real human hair is not supposed to look like something every strand came out of a machine.

Natural hair has variation. That is why quality control matters.

What we can and should control is the sourcing, usable quality, length, weight, texture, color consistency and final inspection before shipment.

If we say it is 100% human hair, then it should actually be 100% human hair.

That is the standard we use for FLEXIGRIP Afro Kinky Bulk Human Hair.
